Chonky is an endearing way to say "a little chubby," and ABG stands for "Asian Baby Girl", an originally 90s slang tied to Southeast Asian gang culture, now more commonly used to describe a broader Asian American aesthetic subculture. There is a complicated evolution, and I don't take that lightly.

Put together, chonkyABG is a little ironic: I don't really fit that mold, and as a Cantonese girl born and raised in Hong Kong who later immigrated to the U.S., I never really did.

I like to joke that I'm a failed ABG. I've got the lashes, the boba obsession, and a love for raves, but that's pretty much where it ends. ABGs are typically sleek, Southeast Asian, and have a whole cultural history I'm not a part of, definitely not chonky, and definitely not me. The name is my way of leaning into that contrast — playful, imperfect, and unapologetically me.
